Interpretive Design
From 1972-2002 Dottie made floral design her livelihood in traditional retail, freelance, in her own independent design practice, and as a photo stylist. She has served brides, event planners, banquet & catering managers, funeral directors, churches, corporations, and individual people who've wanted a professional floral artist to provide impeccable fresh cut flowers, gathered from around the world, and styled to perfection for their special needs.
Although she doesn't rely on designing flowers for a living anymore the skill comes in handy when one of her floral growers, importers, wholesalers, or retail clients needs an experienced stylist to show off their specialty products through a photo-shoot, trade show, or exhibit. For example:
- When the California Flower Company trusted her to run an experimental fall promotion, she was able to design all the pieces for the commentary - getting the advertisement ready in a cost effective and expedient way.
- While consulting with the African importer, Brooke House, she was able to design the flowers in their WFFSA trade show booth into an eye-catching display.
- To help give New Zealand grower and exporter, Zest, attention for its incredibly diverse and textured products, Dottie styled a selection of their flowers to create Flowerhandlers' TipSheet # 21 which has been introduced to thousands of floral industry professionals over the years.

Dottie acknowledges that at this point in her career, designing flowers is usually just a great perk to her new found passion - consulting, coaching, speaking, presenting, and teaching. But styling flowers is always a welcome request from friends, family, colleagues, and others who want to include Dottie's work in their wedding, event, & special occasion celebrations.

Just can't thank you enough!! Your transformation of the tent into a tropical paradise was unbelievable. All of my family - even my brothers were very impressed with your floral displays.
