Workshops & Presentations
World Floral Expo, 2009
During the World Floral Expo, 2009 exhibitors and attendees feeling the need to transition their business to align with the economy were reminded of Ralph Waldo Emerson's words: "This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it". And they were shown how to choose a positive direction to take their companies.
Dottie presented "Re-Designing the Floral Business of Your Dreams" an educational workshop that offered focusing tools and processes to help floral professionals choose a direction and be able to make safe, positive, and timely changes in their companies.
Attendees learned step-by-step methods to take their wishes for new projects, new direction, and new streams of business income, through 5 Levels of Development and 4 Stages of Planning to become a reality.
The processes learned and practiced in this workshop at WFE can be applied over and over again (every time there is a change on the horizon) so professionals can continually align and adapt their business to the ebb and flow of the marketplace.

"Business education is paramount to the success of any business. Workshops like dottie's should be added to the show. It is value added! In this economy education is key. It will also provide occasion for more people to be involved in the flow as part of the flower world. Great job!"

"Thank you for giving of your time and insightfulness at the workshop. I have been using the system you shared to vet some ideas and projects and it works wonderfully. The system is a great tool that when used by anyone serious about being more productive, planning to succeed, and accomplishing their goals, will help them do just that. The entire world needs to know about your system, thank you again for sharing it with us in attendance at your workshop. My entire Group will benefit because I attended this workshop. All the best,"

Middle Atlantic Florists Association, 2008
For years the Middle Atlantic Florists Association (MAFA) has had Dottie teach one of their floral design workshops at summer convention. But her real passion is in teaching floral business development. She was thrilled when MAFA relied on her to create and teach the entire Business Tract for their 2008 annual conference.
With the help of Will Carlson and Bil Bitz of FlowerPR she put together three, 2-hour workshops to help florists grow their businesses.
- Creating Websites that WORK FOR Florists - a multimedia presentation showed practical ways for florists to use their independent websites to make the most of their wire services; attract & market to their perfect customers; create customer loyalty; and get control of their twenty-first century businesses.
- "Easy - Breezy" Lifestyle Marketing for Florists - a hands-on planning workshop let florists experience a fun way to develop a marketing plan to serve them through the year, align with their dreams, desires, interests, and allow them to live any way they want.
- Designing the Floral Business of YOUR DREAMS - took form as Round Table Discussions that addressed changes in the four fundamental elements of business success that impact traditional retail floristry. In this lively interactive workshop experienced florists, new floral retailers, and supplier & services representatives discovered, discussed, reviewed, and evaluated solutions to encourage today's progressive florist to design or redesign the business of their dreams.

- Organized and easy to follow
- Helpful leave behind outline
- Answered all my questions
- Stayed on track
- Professional and respectful of all who were in the room
- Dynamic speaker - the time flew - we all wanted to talk more
- Gave us all the "big picture" helped us all step back and think about what we do, what we want to do, and how to get there.

Super floral Show, 2004
In 2004 Dottie gathered table moderators from the Country's leading supermarkets, suppliers, and service companies to facilitate the Super Floral Show's Birds-of-a-Feather Roundtable Discussion "More Than Talk: Creating Profitable Supplier / Retailer Relationships".
Her sincere admiration for retailers, their vendors, and service providers allowed lively but respectful discussion to fill the room as retailers and their suppliers discovered how to:
- Understand one another
- Communicate more effectively with one another
- Support one another's needs
- Work within one another's restrictions and requirements
so everyone (retailers and suppliers) could achieve their common and individual goals.
